60 Seconds With… Courageous Team of ‘Mother Tongues’

Mother Tongues [Blog Image]

Meet the courageous team of Mother Tongues. In our latest blog, we come to understand how mother story marvels the Fringe stage and audiences.

Briefly introduce yourself/your company…
We are six women united by our love for storytelling. In Mother Tongues, we take to the
stage to explore the language and voices of who we come from and the lasting impact
of both having and being a mother. Our stories are heart wrenching, funny, raw, and
real and they flip the myth of the Good Mother.

What is it that makes your work/company unique
We began meeting in 2021 over Zoom as a way to escape hibernation. We wrote, shared our stories, and before we knew it we had something greater than six individual voices. This show has no props and no special effects. Just us bringing true stories from the trenches of motherhood.

What kind of experience do you hope audiences will have during your show?
Our hope is that the audience will see themselves in our stories. The power of the mother story is that every person comes from one.

Without spoilers, tell us what you think audiences will remember most about your show?
The audience will marvel at six courageous women standing in front of a room of strangers telling stories. They will remember being invited into these most honest and intimate mothering moments.

What do you think is the best thing about the Fringe?
The best thing about Fringing is the joy and freedom of creative expression in a
creative environment. The challenges that take us to the ‘Fringe’, out of our comfort zone –to teeter on the edge. Honestly, we’re just looking
forward to sitting on stage and having some peace and quiet!

What is the most important thing you hope audiences will take away from your show?
We hope that the audience will take a moment to reflect on their own mother experience, whatever mother might mean for them.

Tickets for Mother Tongues are on sale now, taking place at Studio 16 from 8 – 18 Sep. Book your spot today for just $15 per person!
