Young Widow

Splendiferous Theatre

"Young Widow" is a rollercoaster ride through love, loss, and traumatic events as a young widow recounts her journey of losing her 27-year-old husband to cancer and the aftermath of isolation, grief, anxiety and existential dread. Inspired by some real events, this raw and dynamic solo performance captures the highs and lows of love and loss and conveys grief made worse by ptsd, and the search for meaning in a world that appears turned upside down.

Expect a blend of personal anecdotes and dark humour, delivered with a candid, confessional flair and imaginative use of multimedia. The show is part memoir, part confessional, seamlessly transitioning from the heartfelt to the hilarious. One minute you’re laughing at absurdities, the next you’re moved by the tragic love story and onslaught of challenges one young widow faces in the years following her husbands death.

With artistic lighting and sound design by Victoria Bell and innovative use of video projection, "Young Widow" is an imaginative, poetic and entertaining show. Young Widow pulls you into an intimate, and compelling experience. The journey is one of the young widow's vulnerability and realness as she navigates disastrous dates and a search for meaning—all the while dealing with ongoing financial challenges and struggles of PTSD and sharing with you some of her most memorable life experiences.

This show is touching and surprisingly funny and reflects on the quirks of the human condition, making you more aware of grief and widowhood through the character of Young Widow.
