Until it Breaks me Down

Logan Whyte

When he was 15 years old, he was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It has impacted nearly every aspect of his life. Feeling unsupported and stigmatized by the popular misinformation on living with the disorder, Logan asks "am I just supposed to wait around Until it Breaks me Down?"

An ever-evolving piece spanning 4 years in the making, 2 short films, and 2 live performances, Until it Breaks me Down was created to raise awareness of the truth behind living with OCD as a way to try and to break the stigma created by popular depictions. Each adaptation is different from the last as creator Logan Whyte’s understanding of his OCD changes over time. Exploring concepts such as avoidance, counting, repetition, and retrograding, Logan’s past 4 adaptations successfully shared an authentic depiction of living with the disorder to audiences.

With this 5th adaptation, Logan makes his Fringe debut by expanding the universe of the work into a whole new territory of existentialism and fear, exploring where his struggles started, how it’s going now, and where he fears he is headed. It's an exploration of the persistent battle of the neurodivergent mind and the fight to not succumb to the debilitating symptoms of OCD or fall into the purgatory of the OCD cycle. With inspirations from concepts such as purgatory, submission, intrusion, and personal limitations, this new adaptation of Until it Breaks me Down is the most conceptually dark, physically daring, risky, and thrilling version yet, as Logan’s battles expand beyond tangible reality, tackling his biggest subconscious fears of his OCD head on.
