The Song Collector

Hummingbird Interactive

'What can a song do to you?
Can it bring back a spring in December?
Can it make, with each note, such an ache in your throat
That you find you can still remember?'
- Molly Drake

From the writer/director of the one person phone show Last One Standing comes another small scale production in the Urbanarium.

The Song Collector is an immersive video-based theatrical installation, inspired by folk song collector Lucy Broadwood. Step inside Lucy's room, where you are welcome to browse her collection - and add to it.

Lucy Broadwood (1858-1929)'s story is unique, because it's not just about music. As an upper class unmarried woman, she was an exception and way ahead of her time. Through playing the organ in her local church, she got to meet the local working men and persuaded them to share their songs with her. She collected many folk songs, songs about love, work, politics and desire. Songs that were shared within communities, thus storing their collective memories. What's your song memory?

The Song Collector is a 30 minute long site-specific show for a maximum of only 4 audience members at a time, so pre-ordering your tickets is advised.
