The Walk of Shame

Samantha Li

Sam has been pissed at the patriarchy ever since her mom slut-shamed her at a young age. In The Walk of Shame, she makes the case that her sex life is her own fucking business, not her mom's or anyone else's. Not even God's. She shares stories from her sexual history to argue that she shouldn't be considered—in her mom's words—a "whore."

The Walk of Shame is a hilariously vulnerable one-woman show that explores themes of religious guilt and sexuality through experimental forms, moving gracefully from stand-up comedy to physical theatre through an Asian femme perspective. The show follows Sam's unapologetic reclamation of her sexual agency, though she sometimes wavers under the weight of guilt. It is an embodiment of what it takes to live without shame as a young woman.

The Walk of Shame is an original performance written and performed by Samantha Li 李倩伽, directed and dramaturged by Katie Voravong (I Fear Love, 2024 Artistic Risk Award Winner), assisted directed by Carol Chu, produced by Jawbone Theatre Collective, stage managed by Bernice Paet, and technically designed by Colleen Bayati.
