A whimsical and raunchy musical stand-up comedy show, Sexy Viola Jokes challenges the serious nature of the classical musical world. Through the lens of Rae and her trusty viola (the big violin), this solo show wades through the anxieties of their new world: life after graduation from the Juilliard School.

Rae’s identity crisis is heightened by reflecting on her childhood growing up on Vancouver Island, her capricious professional violist career and her students raising their hand to seriously inquire about their teacher’s enormously large pimple they can see from the back of the classroom. As Rae encounters new people in the real world, one thing stays the same—their strong opinions about her tortoise styled, cat-eyed glasses.

Sexy Viola Jokes elevates classical music into mainstream lore, connecting solo viola with Rae's opinions of inner demons, exes, and 10-year-olds who are smarter than her. The songs on the viola fuse the story together, uplifting the awkward and heartfelt moments with the sweet sounds of any string players childhood: Suzuki Method Books 1-3.

A first time Fringer, Rae Gallimore is no stranger to the stage. She has performed internationally as a chamber, orchestral and solo musician. Currently based in Toronto, Rae can be found playing at orchestras, teaching the next generation of string players, or on the comedy stage, recently being featured in the Comedy is Art festival.
