The Baldersons, a tough-as-nails producer and her artsy director husband known for low-budget sci-fi movies, are making the leap into romantic comedy. But during rehearsal for their autobiographical love story, they clash over the details of an affair. They begin subjecting the poor actors playing them to increasingly biased versions of the same ridiculous breakup scene, luring the lovestruck leads into a four-way battle for truth, validation and one dangerous question: who is manipulating who?
