Las Mujeronas
Jhoely Triana Flamenco
Las Mujeronas brings together a collective of Flamenco Latinas in Vancouver in a powerful and emotionally charged exploration of immigration, identity, memory, and belonging. Performed in Spanish, Portuguese and English, with selected text translations for accessibility, the work weaves together flamenco dance, live music, poetry, and storytelling into an intimate theatrical experience that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Rooted in the intercultural history of flamenco and inspired by the Ida y Vuelta song forms that travelled between Spain and Latin America, Las Mujeronas honours the journeys, resilience, and emotional realities of women navigating migration and cultural displacement. Every movement, silence, rhythm, and musical phrase is infused with honesty and lived experience, creating a performance that feels raw, fearless, and profoundly human.
Under the direction and choreography of Jhoely Triana, the ensemble balances strength and vulnerability while celebrating sisterhood, ancestry, and the reclaiming of voice and space. The fusion of flamenco tradition with contemporary storytelling expands the art form beyond technique, revealing flamenco as a living language of resistance, connection, and emotional truth.
Audiences are invited not only to witness the performance, but to feel immersed within it — to listen with both ears and heart. Bold, evocative, and joyfully communal, Las Mujeronas culminates in a vibrant celebration of rhythm, memory, and shared humanity that lingers long after the final applause.

Las Mujeronas was such a beautiful and raw journey. Each performance showed such deep emotion through powerful storytelling, movement, and music. All you needed was your ears and heart to understand the messages being shared. Gifting your audience a chance to immerse ourselves in your world of flamenco.
The ensemble performed with remarkable presence and conviction. There was a powerful sense of collective energy on stage — one that honoured both individuality and sisterhood. The choreography balanced strength and vulnerability beautifully, allowing each artist to embody the spirit of the “mujerona”: fearless, grounded, passionate, and unapologetically Woman.
