The Flail is a dark, hilarious one-man show tracing one man's journey from a traumatic childhood in small-town Alberta through active addiction, homelessness, and the long, unglamorous road to recovery. But this isn't a cautionary tale. This is a twisted fun adventure told by someone who was genuinely good at being a drug addict — and has the cocaine math to prove it.

Growing up between Grande Prairie and Whitecourt with an abusive grandfather, an absent mother, and no shortage of bad decisions, Arturo discovered early that the best way to survive was to make people laugh. That instinct for comedy became a coping mechanism. The coping mechanism became cocaine. The cocaine became a career.

Along the way there are 7-Elevens he can't go back into, awful interventions, confusing nights of meth and cocaine, psychosis, drug dealers, workplace hazards, and love found in all the wrong places. But also, what comes after the hardest part — staying sober.

The Flail is about what happens when the thing keeping you alive is also the thing killing you. It's about the version of yourself you built to survive — and what it takes to finally look that person in the mirror.
