Blackbird

Fresh Ground Theatre

She was twelve. He was forty. He went to prison. She went home to a life that was never the same.

Now, fifteen years later, she has tracked him down to his new workplace. He has a new name, a new life, colleagues who know nothing about him. And she's not leaving until she has what she came for. What that is, exactly, neither of them can say.

A raw, unfiltered confrontation of a shared past that neither Una, Ray, nor the audience, can walk away from unscathed. Blackbird is an unflinching dissection of what we become when there is nowhere left to hide.

Director Branden Sugden brings David Harrower’s Olivier Award-winning script back to the Vancouver Fringe in a new production of one of contemporary theatre's most uncompromising plays.

What do we owe the people we've wronged? What do we owe ourselves? And when do we stop mistaking survival for impunity?
