Ask Me How I’m Feeling
Rita Sheena
A contemporary dance work exploring the emotional depth and resilience of Women through the embodiment of their lived experiences. Blending narrative and abstract storytelling, Chelsea McGowan, Cassielle Flowers, and Rita Sheena (EVERYBODY KNOWS: Leonard Cohen Dance Theatre), move through emotional rupture, transformation, and renewal.
The choreography draws from contemporary dance and movement theatre traditions, combining expressive gesture, grounded physicality, improvisational elements, and theatrical imagery to create a performance that is both visceral and poetic.
The journey at the heart of the piece is universal: the search for meaning amidst chaos, the confrontation of inner darkness, and the rediscovery of hope through human connection.
In the First Act, naivety crumbles with youth to expose angst and a deep sense of uncertainty. An honest vulnerability is translated through movement as she struggles to find grounding.
The Second Act brings relentless repetition and raw volatility, exploring the tensions of rage and grief. This deep well is the container of transformation, and ultimately, acceptance.
Finally, in the Third Act, acceptance brings an expansive connectedness, to joy and hope. Renewal is expressed through flow and luminous freedom.
The audience is invited to be present through their own embodied experiences – drawing commonality or perspective to three personal vignettes that beg the question – Ask Me How I’m Feeling.
