COVID-19 — Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society Updated Statement
(Updated April 23, 2020)
The Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society is currently undergoing a process to investigate various options for the annual Vancouver Fringe Festival in 2020.
Community safety is the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Society’s top priority, inclusive of equal care for Fringe artists, volunteers, staff, and audiences. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and look for guidance and recommendations in the coming weeks and months from the Public Health Agency of Canada, HealthLink BC, and BC Centre for Disease Control. We are eager to present the Festival this year and continue with our mission to “cultivate artists and audiences to create an open and vibrant independent theatre community.”
However, we understand that this year’s Festival will need additional health and safety considerations and may require modifications depending on the social distancing measures in place in September. We will provide regular updates on plans for the Festival starting mid-May, with additional updates thereafter. We continue to stay hopeful for the situation to improve to allow us to present this year’s Fringe with necessary adjustments to account for the pandemic and to address our community’s and artist’s concerns.
