Hi, I’m Hannah, aka Astia. I’m originally from Osaka, Japan, and I moved to Canada two years ago. This is my first time performing; I have no acting experience, but I love to write stories.

Fun fact: I’m currently in London, taking a Shakespeare summer school for acting.

What is the plot of your show?

Chose is about shifting from waiting to be chosen to learning how to choose for yourself. I can’t spoil too much, you’ll have to come see for yourself

What inspired you to create this show?

I was inspired by my own experiences in life and love, specifically focusing on finding the comedic and philosophical aspects of it.

What are you hoping audiences will experience or take away from your show?

I wanted to create something that helps people reflect on their own life, relationships and ask themselves, ‘Am I choosing for love or fear?’ I hope this show will be a place of self-reflection and discovery through comedy and philosophy.

How did the Fringe Mentorship Program help you create your show and shape your Fringe experience?

The mentorship experience meant a lot to me, as it was my first time at Fringe. My mentor, Ashley Whitehead, really helped ease my nerves. I was scared to perform in front of people and didn’t have much confidence. Ashley provided a lot of reassurance and helped me achieve my specific vision for the show.

Why should people come see your show?

My show is only 25 minutes, so it’s one of the shortest shows, making it easy to stop by and perfect for filling in a gap. Also, if you want to take a break, the show is like meditation with lots of self-reflection.

Theatre edition: what is a hill you’re willing to die on?

We need more honest stories. As a writer and actor, I don’t want to exaggerate my moments and emotions. I understand we need to entertain, but we can add a more in-depth level of honesty. That’s why in my show, I’m going to be clear and honest about my experiences.
