Site-Specific Application

1. The Application Process

Site-Specific applicants provide their own venue, technician, lighting, and sound. The Site-Specific category supports the local theatre community by offering more opportunities for participation in the Festival by artists who did not apply/were not selected in the Mainstage category, and by including alternative venues in the Fringe for audiences to enjoy.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis if their sites are within walking distance of Granville Island or Havana Restaurant and meet the criteria of the Site-Specific Program.

The Fringe also provides:

  • Program Guide listing for up to 10 performances and inclusion in Festival publicity
  • Advance and at-door box office
  • Front-of-house services through volunteer teams
  • Access to the local media list and publicity information
  • 100% of the base ticket price generated by the performing company. This does not include taxes and fees. Artist revenue is $11 per ticket. Some tickets may be purchased with Frequent Fringer cards, which would have a $9 or $10 payout per ticket.

2. Fee Structure & Payment

Site-Specific applicants do not need to pay the administration fee when applying. Site-Specific applicants will be charged the Site-Specific Artist Fee of $500.00 (tax-free!) within two weeks of receiving an application approval. Payment instructions will be included in the approval email.  After this deadline, accepted artists with outstanding payment will be moved to the bottom of the waitlist, and the first waitlisted artist will be offered their spot.

Payment of the Site-Specific Artist Fee confirms your acceptance of a spot in the Festival, giving you a maximum of 10 performances for Site-Specific shows of any performance length. (Shows at very small venues may be permitted to have more than 10 performances with Fringe approval).

A non-refundable $50.00 administration fee is included in the Site-Specific Artist Fee. Note: Any Mainstage waitlisted company who applies in the Site-Specific category and is accepted does not have to pay the $50 application fee again.

There will be a charge of $25.00 for all cheques returned with non-sufficient funds.

Accepted artists may withdraw from the Fringe until April 4, 2017. Artists that withdraw before or on this date will have their fee refunded (minus the $50 non-refundable administration charge).

Read carefully – this is what you’re agreeing to when you submit your application!

Note: cheques cannot be made out to Company names unless there is a bank account in that name. There will be a fee charged for any cheques that need to be re-issued due to incorrect payable information provided to the Fringe.
