Cocoa Camino: Fair and Delicious!

Yummy Chocolate from Cocoa Camino

At the Fringe, we like to consider ourselves fair people. We pick shows based on a lottery, we let artists perform whatever they want, and we give 100% of regular box office revenues to the artists so that they can keep their dreams alive. It should come as no surprise then that here at the Fringe we support fair trade companies. This is why we’re happy to say that our friends over at La Siembra–producer of Cocoa Camino chocolates and sugar products–will join us once again this year in our Sweet on the Fringe campaign during the Festival.

La Siembra is North America’s largest producer of fair trade organic cocoa and sugar products. All Cocoa Camino products are fair trade certified, organic, and kosher. This means that every Cocoa Camino product you eat, including their matcha green tea chocolate bar and chilli and spice hot chocolate, was produced using sustainable production methods, was cultivated by willing and of-age employees, and is supportive of democratic participation in farmer-owned co-ops. Not bad for a Canadian co-operative.

La Siembra will support our Sweet on the Fringe campaign during our Opening Night Gala with a tasty gift basket and during the Festival as we spread around their fair trade, chocolatey goodness to unsuspecting but deserving Fringers! Maybe you’ll be one? Come to Fringe and find out!

Just What Is Sweet on the Fringe Anyway?

This year we solidify our focus on the creation and implementation of Sweet on the Fringe, our individual donor program. We’re excited to bring our members (that’s you!) a little closer into our donor family. With your help, we’ll have more economic stability and a greater scope for program development. Above all, we will be able to create more opportunities for artists! Your attendance at our artists’ shows makes you the bedrock of the Fringe, but because we return 100% of regular revenues to the artists, we rely on your donations to run as a Festival.

You can become a Fringe Donor right now by using CanadaHelps.org. You’ll receive a tax receipt and our newsletters. You can donate on your own behalf, on another’s, or in memory of a loved one. And the larger your donation, the more Sweetness you receive from us: T-shirts, tickets, and special event invites!

The Sweet on the Fringe campaign continues at a different pace during the Festival. You can help us and the artists we produce with a small donation to “top up” your purchase when you buy tickets online or in person. And keep your eye out for especially tasty Sweet on the Fringe surprise fundraising events at select shows!

Creating theatre that is hilarious and compelling, Joe and Minna Dieffenbacher combine the arts of circus, slapstick, and puppetry with the skills of acrobat, mime, and visual arts. Touring with other shows since Peel was at the Fringe in 1995, the Dieffenbachers have gone from London to Singapore to Seattle. There hasn’t been a part of the world untouched by this master clown and award-winning mask-maker duo.
